How should we contact you?

If I could ask you, then I wouldn’t even need the answer anymore

Let’s imagine I’ve found you on Twitter and I have a reason to get into contact with you with a reason that I don’t want to discuss in public

Naturally I would try to send you a DM. But I’ve found the DMs closed. There is no ✉️ icon to click on. So how about I will @ you and ask how I can reach you? Most likely Twitter will swallow my message and won’t tell me that it will never have the way into your inbox. Not even your spam folder/hidden requests. This is a dead end ❌

Let’s say I still care about engaging with you. So I will Google your username. I will find that you are having a Patreon. But there is only a “Become a member” button. Dead end ❌ Ko-Fi? There is a ✉️ button! click “Support Username to start talking”. Dead end ❌

I would send a snail mail letter if I could. Of course having your physical address would be creepy ❌ The alternative to it would be email. But you didn’t show your email due to reasons ❌

Putting more effort into this would end up in stalking which wouldn’t be justified, not worth the effort or maybe even morally questionable

Did you ever try to contact some tech giant or your phone/internet provider? It feels familiar. It seems like we don’t want to be reached. We like to send out our messages and our content to the world. But it comes in the form of a no-reply@ kind of address

Seemingly one reason is spam. Even with a minimum amount of visibility you will get spammed or harassed. Some fields expect a higher amount of noise. Maybe you are a job recruiter who receives hundred of inquiries per day. Maybe you are selling pencil art and stickers. Maybe you are selling nudes. In some cases it’s less likely that some rando of the internet wants to strike a genuine conversation. We all saw the comment sections filled with 🥵🥵🥵 emojis or “Go for it!” posts. Better let them stay in the comments than having hundreds of DMs with that content

But that was not my intent
You will never know about this
There was no way to convey my message to you
